Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt pulled off a major upset by defeating Manchester City 3-1 on Tuesday evening, in Matchday 7 of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Bodø/Glimt stunned the hosts with a blistering spell in the first half, as striker Kasper Høgh scored twice in quick succession in the 22nd and 24th minutes, both goals coming from assists by Ola Didrik Blomberg.

The Norwegian champions continued their impressive performance in the second half, with Jens Petter Hauge adding the third goal in the 58th minute.

Manchester City managed to reduce the deficit shortly after, when Rayan Cherki scored the visitors’ only goal in the 60th minute.

However, any hopes of a comeback were dealt a severe blow when midfielder Rodri (Rodrigo Hernández Cascante) was sent off in the 62nd minute, forcing City to finish the match with ten men.

Following the defeat, Manchester City remain fourth in the Champions League standings with 13 points. Bodø/Glimt, meanwhile, climbed to sixth place with six points.

The Champions League is being played under its new format this season, with the top eight teams qualifying directly for the Round of 16.

Teams finishing from ninth to 24th place will compete in two-legged playoff ties, with eight teams advancing to the last 16.
