Two people were killed and five others injured, some critically, after a shooting in the southern French city of Nice late on Friday, authorities confirmed on Saturday.
Officials said the incident is being investigated as a case of premeditated murder likely linked to organized crime. Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi stated that the shooting was connected to drug-related offences and involved the use of automatic weapons.
He called for a permanent increase in police presence in the affected neighborhood to curb rising criminal activity.
French media reported that the attackers remain at large as police continue an extensive manhunt across the region.
