Seventeen people lost their lives when their bus plunged off a mountain in central Philippines, according to a local official's announcement on Wednesday.

Roderick Trin, the head of the local branch of the Disaster Management Agency, stated that the bus was traversing a "treacherous section" of a mountain road in the municipality of Hamtic in Antique province when the accident occurred on Tuesday.

He added that 11 individuals sustained serious injuries, seven of whom are in critical condition, in addition to the 17 fatalities.

The accident happened on a mountain road, causing the bus to tumble down the hill, which is why there were numerous casualties.

Road accidents are common in the Philippines, where drivers often flout traffic rules, and vehicles are frequently in poor condition or overloaded beyond their capacity.
