Sixteen people were injured in a traffic accident on a highway in Germany late Thursday night.

According to preliminary police reports announced Friday morning, a bus coming from Poland with 59 passengers onboard veered off the highway between Hamburg and Berlin, colliding with a central road barrier and a traffic sign.

All windows on the left side of the bus were damaged in the collision, causing injuries to 16 passengers from shattered glass fragments. A police spokesperson mentioned that the severity of the injuries was not yet clear.

The entire highway near Blievenstorf in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania towards Hamburg was closed as a result.

Rescue operations are currently underway, with firefighting teams working to extricate uninjured passengers from the accident site.

In March, two serious bus accidents occurred within a few days. Near Leipzig, a bus carrying 54 passengers veered off the road while traveling from Berlin to Zurich, overturning and resulting in the death of four women and numerous injuries.

Shortly after, another bus carrying about 60 passengers veered off the highway near Vierl in North Rhine-Westphalia, also overturning and injuring 20 people.

The bus was carrying students from a vocational college in Freiburg returning from a trip to England.

In April last year, a bus overturned on a highway in Zaurland, injuring four teenagers seriously.
