At least 15 people have been confirmed dead and 10 remain missing after flash floods and landslides swept across two Indonesian provinces, according to local authorities.

The disaster, triggered by torrential rains that began on Monday, struck East Nusa Tenggara and the popular tourist island of Bali.

In East Nusa Tenggara’s Nagikeo district, three people died when floods destroyed their home, while five others remain unaccounted for.

In Bali, rescue teams recovered eight bodies from various locations, with another eight people still missing, said Denpasar police chief Muhammad Iqbal Simatupang. Flooded rivers overflowed into nine districts and cities, carrying mud, rocks, and uprooted trees into mountain villages.

The floods inundated at least 112 residential areas and caused multiple landslides, according to the Bali Disaster Mitigation Agency.

Nyoman Sidakarya, head of Bali’s Search and Rescue Agency, reported that four people were inside a building swept away by floodwaters in the Kompasari Market area of South Denpasar.

Videos released by the National Search and Rescue Agency showed vehicles floating in muddy waters.

At the same time, soldiers and medics used inflatable boats to evacuate children and elderly residents stranded on rooftops and submerged buildings.

The floods have damaged thousands of homes and properties across residential and tourist areas. Authorities have cut off electricity and water supplies in several regions to prevent further risks.
