At least 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed on Saturday in a large-scale ambush carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) near the Afghan border, according to local officials and security sources.

The attack took place around 4 a.m. in the northwestern region, when heavily armed militants opened fire with heavy weapons on an army and border patrol convoy from both sides of the road. Security officials confirmed that the attackers seized weapons from the convoy following the assault.

The Pakistani Taliban later claimed responsibility for what it described as a highly complex operation, stating that its fighters captured 10 machine guns and a drone from the security forces.

The region has witnessed frequent deadly attacks by the TTP in recent years, often targeting soldiers and police through ambushes and kidnappings.

In response, the Pakistani military has launched repeated counteroffensives, resulting in the deaths and injuries of dozens of militants.
