At least twelve people, including police officers and gunmen, were killed in an attack on a police training school in northwestern Pakistan, according to a statement released by the Pakistani military.
The assault took place in the city of Dera Ismail Khan, located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Armed militants stormed the facility, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire with law enforcement forces.
The military confirmed that six militants and six police personnel, including trainees, were killed in the clash, while several others sustained injuries.
Pakistan has seen a sharp surge in militant attacks in recent months, particularly in the northwestern regions bordering Afghanistan.
The Pakistani army has been conducting long-term operations to eliminate armed groups entrenched in mountainous areas that continue to target both security forces and civilians.
