Terrorists carried out brutal massacres in two villages near the Niger-Burkina Faso border, resulting in the deaths of 11 people, as announced by the Nigerien Ministry of Defense on Sunday.

According to the ministry's statement, "Terrorists riding on numerous motorcycles stormed the villages of Amara and Lodji," located about 30 kilometers southeast of Banikora.

"They attacked peaceful villagers and killed 11 people."

These attacks occurred as Nigerien security forces conducted "several air-land operations" on Friday, which, according to the ministry, led to the "elimination" of the terrorists' communication channels.

Additionally, one soldier was killed, and five others were wounded on Friday when their vehicle struck a landmine while passing through Ouro Guéladjo, approximately 70 kilometers from the capital, Niamey.

On December 17th, General Abdul Rahman Tiani, the head of the ruling military council, stated that the security situation was "gradually returning to normal" thanks to the "several successes" of the army in quelling disturbances.

According to military and local sources, the border region with Burkina Faso and Mali has witnessed a relative calm in recent weeks.
