Ahly vs Pyramids Match Report

The Egyptian giants met at the Cairo international stadium, with Zamalek holding their breath because of the encounter as the clash would have had a huge impact on the CAF Champions League qualification.

Pitso Mosimane’s side had a very difficult start to the game as key man Mahmoud Kahraba suffered an early thigh injury just 10 minutes into the game.

The bad news kept on coming for the Reds as Amr El Solya was sent off in the 40th minute with a straight red card after elbowing Mahmoud Hamada.

Three minutes before that, Pyramids thought they got the lead after Ahmed Ayman Mansour opened the score card, but the goal was ruled out for offside after the referee consulted the VAR.

Moments later Al Ahly were awarded a penalty, but El-Mahdy Soliman kept out Mohamed Magdy Afsha’s slow paced strike, to end the first-half with a goalless draw.

Al Ahly had two dangerous chances through Hussein El-Shahat and Afsha in the second half, but couldn’t take advantage of them as the latter’s shot his the post.

The draw means that Zamalek could return back to second place if they manage to win against Haras El-Hodood on Monday.

Pyramids currently sit second with 64 points, two ahead of Zamalek, but the Whites played one less game.
