One person was killed and 10 were missing in a massive landslide on the Italian island of Ischia, on Saturday.

The heavy rain on the island caused the landslide on the Italian holiday destination.

The operation of security and search started in the small town of Casamicciola Terme, and supplies and reinforcements were sent from Naples.

However, the unstable weather conditions are complicating the search for the missing or more victims, the Italian Civil Protection department told CNN.

Eight people were rescued on Saturday according, said the civil protection department.

The operations were coordinated by the Naples prefecture, authorities told CNN, and are expected to last through the night.

Seventy firefighters are on the island assisting with the search and rescue, the Italian Fire Brigade said in a tweet.

Ischia, in the Gulf of Naples, was hit by heavy rain early Saturday, leaving behind dozens of damaged cars, buildings, and roads.
