WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 (SEE)- US President Donald Trump abandoned a meeting with US Congressional leaders on a debate over the partial shutdown of the federal government, calling it "a waste of time."

Trump held the meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to discuss the 19-day government closure.

"I just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a waste of time," the president said on Twitter.

"I asked what would happen within 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve border security, which includes a wall or a steel barrier? Nancy said No. I said goodbye, nothing else works!"

Trump had threatened earlier in the day, using the executive to finance the construction of the border wall, if he did not reach an agreement with Congress.

The US president said in previous statements today that if negotiations with the Democrats to end the partial closure of the government go well, it will serve a different way through the declaration of a state of national emergency.

The Democrats refused to fund his planned US-Mexico border wall.

Up to 800,000 federal workers will not receive their salaries this week for the first time since the partial closure began.

US-Mexico steel barrier construction is expected to cost $5.7 billion.

It is worth mentioning that the Democrats took over the House of Representatives this month.
