In a surprising turn of events, Liverpool faced a tough defeat against French side Toulouse, falling 3-2 in Thursday night's action-packed match held at Toulouse's Municipal Stadium. This fixture marked the fourth round of Group 5 in the current 2023-24 Europa League season.

Toulouse's victory was sealed with goals from Aaron Leya Iseka, Thijs Dallinga, and Franck Mager, striking at the 36th, 58th, and 76th minutes, respectively. Liverpool's counter-efforts saw an own goal by Christian Casseres and a late strike from Diogo Jota at the 74th and 89th minutes.

Liverpool's Egyptian ace, Mohamed Salah, entered the fray in the second half after being benched in the first. Despite creating several opportunities, luck was not on his side to find the back of the net during his time on the pitch.

The 'Egyptian King' endured a robust challenge from Toulouse's goalkeeper, leading to a scare of a serious injury. However, swift intervention from Liverpool's medical team allowed him to quickly return to the game.

Despite the loss, Liverpool stands at the top of Group 5 with 9 points from three wins and one defeat, boasting 12 goals scored and 5 conceded. Toulouse sits in second place, accumulating 7 points from two victories, one draw, and one defeat, with 6 goals for and 8 against.
