Strongest storm in 25 years hits Japan

CAIRO Sept 5 (SEE): Typhoon Jebi, the worst to hit Japan in 25 years  killed at least 11 people, local media reported.

Government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said that nearly 600 people were injured after Jebi hardly hit major cities like Kyoto and Osaka.

Based on a report by broadcaster NHKr, 4 people died after falling from upstairs or the roofs of their houses while other 3 were killed after they were hit by flying objects.

Flights and trains were cancelled due to the storm, nearly 3,000 people spent the day standing at Osaka's Kansai International Airport. Travellers were sent by boat to another local airport today.

Evacuation advisories were issued for more than 1.2 million people.

Fire and Disaster Management Agency said, "More than 30,000 people were given stronger but still not mandatory evacuation orders."

According to Jiji Press, 16,000 people spent the night in shelters across 20 prefectures.
