Being an interpreter is a good thing, but being a professional one is an outcome of many efforts and work. Regarding a presidential interpreter, this career needs more work, study as well as high levels of smartness.
Mansour Abdel Wahab, assistant professor of Hebrew at Al-Alsun faculty in Ain Shams University, served as a presidential interpreter during the era of former President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak.
It is worthy to note that Abdel Wahab revealed secrets of so-called an "ornate handwritten letter" that an Israeli delegation submitted to Mubarak to show their respect to the Egyptian then-president.
""Indeed, I could not read that ornate letter which was written in Hebrew," Abdel Wahab said during a seminar entitled 'The presidential interpreter between creativity and scientific approach'.
He manifested that the presidential interpreter has to demonstrate the talent of speech in the presence of high-ranking delegations and presidents.
According to a statement issued by Al-Alsun faculty, presidential interpreters have a unique national duty towards their countries.
Abdel Wahab stressed the necessity of keeping secrets of discussions and talks that interpreters hear at presidential palaces.
"The most confidential interpretations include presidential, military and media interpretations," Abdel Wahab added.
