Peruvian Diego Elias Claims 2019 Macau Squash Open's Title

It did not take long for the Peruvian squash champion Diego Elias to achieve another victory after he won the Troilus Canada Cup in March.

Around a month later, world number 9 Elias snatched was the champion of the Macau Open 2019 that took place in China.

In a 38-minute final, the  22-year-old Peruvian legend defeated Egypt's Omar Mosaad nicknamed as the Hammer of Thor and world number 12, by 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-9).

Expressing his happiness, Elias commented, “I’m feeling really good and I think I played well. Omar is a really tough player who loves to play the ball to the front. He has very good hands and I had to work a lot today. I had to run a lot more today than the previous days.”

Worth noting is that Mosaad's path throughout the Macau Open's past editions is very prestigious.

In 2018 and 2014, the Egyptian champion was the runner-up. In 2013, the Pharaoh was the tournament's champion.

In this regard, before the 2019's final, Mosaad commented "This is a special event for me. I’ve reached the final here for the fourth time today."

Egyptian Victories at the Macau Open Tournaments

Regarding the other Egyptians who triumphed with the Macau Open, in 2017 and 2014, Mohamed Abouelghar (world number 8)and Tarek Momen (world number 3) were the champions, respectively.

Also, in 2012, 2011, and 2000 Karim Darwish, Mohamed El-Shorbagy (world number 2), and Omar El-Borolossy triumphed with the championship's title, respectively.

On the other side, Egyptians Fares Dessouky, El-Shorbagy, and Darwish were the runners-up in 2015, 2012, and 2008, respectively.
