‘Nour Alhaya’ (light of life).. is another humanitarian initiative presented by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to the Egyptians; it focuses on the essence of developing Egyptians' life in order to help them to strongly contribute in building the society.

The humanitarian initiatives chain included the elimination of virus C, Takaful and Karama, elimination of slums, 100 million health, and other humanitarian programmes which all emphasize that human rights, dignity, life and health are the primary concern for the president.

The initiative aims to combat the causes of blindness and weakness of vision for those who can't afford treatment, takes into account the right of patients to get treated since the number of blind people in Egypt is close to one million, most at the age of schooling. Of this, only 37,000 (2%) of them are enrolled in different stages of education and the rest are left to live amid the darkness and real suffering in all aspects of life. This poses burden on family and society.

The president’s initiative includes the detection of 10 million students at primary stage and 2 million of the needy students. It will provide also one million medical eye glasses, 250,000 eye surgeries, as well as re-integration and empowerment of the visually impaired, raising relevant health awareness and funded by ‘Tahya Masr’ fund.

‘Nour Alhaya’.. is a real name for the cause.. The eyes are one’s entrance to the consciousness and the surrounding universe. It is an important sense in learning process. Saving the eye is our dear hope for God to keep it so that we remain in contact with our lives and enjoy the beauty of the universe as well as working to earn our lives. The president is paying attention to that very significant need in our lives. That is a cause that needs all the possible help and support from everyone in the society toward those patients.

If we could help with that, then I assume that we would then have done our duty and we may be a reason to restore the light of life to people who really need our help.

In many occasions, the president is seen rushing to any citizen to greet him or her, and if a child was there, he embraces that child and show his tenderness and paternity. If an old man, he goes to where he sits, and demonstrates all appreciation and support and let him feel that the country will not forget him. Hence, the president instills hope, insight and faith in their hearts.

The initiative is not the first that aims to develop lives, but we have witnessed the initiative of 100 million health and how it saved millions of people who were threatened with serious diseases, and for the burden of life. People do not think about their health, until it suddenly starts to deteriorate. All this comes as the president realizes that human life and health is not only a threat to him but also it might negatively contribute in building the society.

Since the campaign began, I have heard about many people, I am familiar with, who were surprised by getting to know they were ill, but thanks God, still their medical problems are in the treatable stage. There is another initiative to end ‘waiting lists’ for critical surgeries, including open heart, cardiac catheterization, joint change, kidney, liver, cornea, brain and nerve tumors, white water.

And even before this initiative, there was ‘100 million health’ to combat hepatitis C, and the production of one million doses of treatment annually at reduced prices. This move made Egypt to be a pioneer in eradicating this dreaded virus in terms of rate of infection.

Another initiative was “We really love each other” which the president launched during his visit to the cathedral last year to join Copts in their celebrations.. In addition, there is the initiative about jailed females in cases of incurring debts. This programme got back hundred of mothers to their homes after they got jailed because they couldn’t repay their debts.

Another initiative is the development of 300 villages for the most needy villages, and distribution of 10,000 head of cattle to poor families.

We also don't forget the initiative of a ‘Hayah Kareema’ (Good life) which saved hundreds of displaced people and provided them with warmth and shelter, as well as projects such as ‘Takaful w karama’, relocation of slums inhabitants and upgrading their lives and their children.

Last but not least, thank you, Mr. President, and we expect more initiatives that improve our lives, while recognizing that all the initiatives and achievements aim at improving lives of Egyptians through solidarity of society, something that development plans as such can't do.
