Min. of Environment Opens 1st Phase of Developing ‘Ras Mohamed’

CAIRO, Nov. 25 (SEE) - Minister of Environment Dr. Yasmin Fouad and Southern Sinai Governor General Khaled Fouda opened the first phase of developing the ‘Ras Mohamed’ natural reserve.

The opening ceremony, which was attended by a group of Egyptian, UN and foreign officials, included a tour at the under-development guests center as well as presentations about the natural reserves in Sinai and their unique biological

A detailed proposal was presented on how to cooperate with local community in developing and preserving the natural reserves, a way which is essential for any sustainable development for those sites.

Dr. Fouad explained that the first phase of development includes the guests center, show hall, offices of services (which include selling and showing the local community’s products), the cafe, restrooms in addition to maintaining 12 meter long in the reserve routes, BBQ places, center for wastes pision and putting umbrellas for visitors.

The opening ceremony was organized by ministry of environment in cooperation with ‘Financial Sustainability Project for the Protected Areas’ affiliated to the UNDP and Global Environment facility.
