Matthew Lillard is in negotiations to join Amazon MGM’s series "Carrie", based on the iconic debut novel from Stephen King.
The project reunites Lillard with Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass), his director on another King adaptation, "The Life of Chuck", which won the coveted People’s Choice Award at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival, and is slated for release via Neon on June 6.
Lillard is the third actor to come aboard following relative newcomer Summer H. Howell, who plays the title character, and Siena Agudong, who will portray Sue Snell.
Hailing from writer, executive producer and showrunner Flanagan, who will also direct select episodes, the series reimagines the story of Carrie White, a shy, bullied teenage girl who discovers she has telekinetic powers while contending with abuse at school and home, under the scrutiny of her fanatically religious mother.
The show comes on the heels of four Carrie films, the most famous being Brian De Palma’s from 1976, which starred Sissy Spacek.
It consists of eight episodes and has come together quite quickly following Flanagan’s opening of a writers' room in late fall, getting the official greenlight in April.
Trevor Macy will also exec produce, with Amazon MGM Studios producing.
Recently entering production on "Daredevil: Born Again" Season 2, Lillard’s other upcoming projects for film include a return to the Scream franchise with "Scream 7" and Blumhouse/Universal’s sequel to the hit horror video game adaptation "Five Nights at Freddy’s".
