Makram, Canadian Amb. Tackle Ways to Boost Cairo-Ottawa

CAIRO, Nov. 28 (SEE)-Minister of Immigration and Expatriates’ Affairs Nabila Makram received Canadian Ambassador in Cairo Jess Duton and discussed mechanisms of coordination with the Egyptian community living in Ottawa and ways to boost the bilateral relationship between the two.

Makram and Duton tackled ways to boost coordination in regards to migration issues.

The minister explained her officials' efforts to link Egyptian expats with their homeland at various levels.

The Immigration Ministry adopts holding several conferences under the motto of “Egypt Can”. The fourth edition of this conference will be held in Red Sea city of Hurghada, according to Makram.

 

She also noted that “The Revival of Roots” initiative is the first of its kind worldwide. “It aims at welcoming foreign communities that had been living in Egypt in the past.”

For his part, the Canadian ambassador expressed his joy to meet with Makram, adding that he can see her sincere efforts to foster the two countries’ relations.

Duton asserted his country’s support to Egypt which has been fighting against terrorism and extremism.

“Canadian City Council in Montreal switched off its lights once in solidarity with Egypt after a terrorist attack took place in North Sinai,” Duton added.

The diplomat showed great interest in receiving Egyptian students in educational internships in Canada.
