Japan Awards Zahi Hawass Honorary Doctorate in Humanities

In a global celebration, renowned Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass has been awarded an honorary doctorate in humanities by Nagoya University in Japan.

The university's president, Seiji Yama, and its professors awarded Dr. Hawass the honorary doctorate in an award ceremony attended by numerous citizens and scholars.

The university's vice president announced that Dr. Hawass has achieved international recognition and credibility among people worldwide.

He praised the veteran archaeologist for successfully introducing the field of Egyptology into the hearts of the Japanese people through his books and articles, which have found their way into Japanese households.

Dr. Hawass is notably the first Egyptian to receive an honorary doctorate from this university. This honorary doctorate marks the 10th such honor bestowed to the excavator by various countries.

Following the ceremony, Dr. Hawass delivered a lecture titled "Secrets of the Mummies." He engaged with the audience's questions, and the event was covered by several journalists and the Japanese NHK channel.

He emphasized the deep appreciation that Egyptians have for the Japanese people, who have contributed significantly to the flourishing of culture.

Dr. Hawass noted their role in constructing the Cairo Opera House, providing a loan for the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum, and their involvement in the restoration of the Solar Boat.

Furthermore, he revealed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will soon announce the opening date of the Grand Egyptian Museum, a project of immense cultural significance in the 21st century.
