MARYLAND, Sept. 30 (SEE) - Vets at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore invented a wheelchair for an injured turtle, manufactured from Lego cubes.

The turtle suffered from fractures on the bottom of its shell.

The veterinarians focused on keeping the animal off the ground, so they performed a surgery on the turtle to heal the fractures with metal plates, clasps and surgical wire.

Garrett Fraess, a fourth-year veterinary student, said they did not intend to make a turtle-sized wheelchair but he sent some sketches of of a customized wheelchair to Lego enthusiast.

it can push itself through its limbs thanks to the frame and the wheels attached to each side of it.

The 18-year-old animal will use the wheelchair until the spring.
