Indonesian teen saved after 49 days at sea

CAIRO Sept25 (SEE): Aldi Novel Adilang, an Indonesian teenager who spent 49 days adrift at sea, was rescued and returned back to his home, according to The Jakarta Post.

The 19-year-old lamp keeper on a floating fish was drifted 77 miles offshore from his home on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

Adilang kept waving to passing ships every nigh, but no one saw him until he was rescued by a Panamanian-flagged vessel off Guam on Aug. 31, The Indonesian Consulate in Osaka, Japan reporte

He ran out of food after one week, he survived only on the fish he could catch and seawater he squeezed from his clothing, according to the Guardian.

He told local news outlet TribunManado that he thought he was going to die and contemplated drowning himself at times. Prayers and reading the Bible strengthened his faith.

The teenager's parents support their son's decision about stopping working on rompong since it is no the first time the young boy get drifted.
