EU organises beach clean-up day in Alexandria

CAIRO, SEPT 7 (SEE)- The European Union delegation in Egypt, in cooperation with the Governorate of Alexandria and Greenish, is organizing an event to clean the Saraya Beach in Al-Montazah Alexandria on September 15.

The initiative is part of the World Beach Cleanup Day, which aims at mobilizing more than 300 volunteers to clean the 2 km long Beach.

Volunteers will learn about the concept of the World Clean-Up Day and the initiative of protecting marine life in the pearl of  Mediterranean. They will also learn about the importance of recycling, separation, reduction of waste, rationalization of energy and water, as well as minimizing the use of plastics and their risks to marine life.

Eco-friendly gifts will be distributed to participants and the public, including bottles and bags as a substitute for bottles and plastic bags.

A campaign will be launched on social media to educate beach visitors about the dangers of plastic to marine life and its impact on public health, as well as alternatives to disposable plastic materials.
