Professor Shibata to Visit Egypt with Paro

CAIRO, Nov. 12 (SEE)- Eminent Japanese Professor “Takanori Shibata,” will land this week in Cairo, Egypt for a short visit in which he will give an open lecture about his invention ‘Paro’ and tour a number of institutions.

Shibata is the inventor of the Neurological Therapeutic Medical Robot for Non-pharmacological Therapy ‘Paro,’ an interactive robot in the form of a little seal.

The lecture will be held at the Japan Foundation Cairo office in which Shibata will review how ‘Paro,’ helps patients, both children and elderly, with developmental problems to acquire social skills and overcome speech disorders. Shibata will talk in English, Arabic translation will be available.

Attendees will be received from 6 pm and the lecture will start at 6:30 pm and held at the Foundation’s office at Garden City on Sunday November 18.

According to a press release, Mr. Yo Fukazawa, the Director of the Japan Foundation, said: "Dr. SHIBATA will come to Egypt for a short visit; where he’ll visit Children Cancer Hospital 57357, as well as Resala NGO for Charity in both Heliopolis and Nasr City, to visit elderlies nursing hostels and orphanages”.

The Professor will also visit the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) in Alexandria and ends his short visit to Egypt with a tour organized by the Japan Foundation to the Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum, and Khan El-Khalili in the Hussein area to see the famous landmarks in Cairo.

 

 

Shibata is the Chief Senior Researcher at the Research Scientist at Human Informatics Research Institute, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).

He also lectures at the School of Computing, Tokyo Institute of Technology and a visiting Fellow at The AgeLab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Japan Foundation is an independent administrative organization founded in 1972 under the auspices of the Japanese Foreign Ministry for the purpose of promoting international understanding through cultural exchange. The institution aims to maintain and develop harmonious relationships with foreign countries in different fields as arts, culture to foster intellectual exchange.
