Egyptian Ambassador to Algeria Ayman Mosharafa on Friday cast his vote in a public referendum on constitutional amendments at the Egyptian embassy in the Arab country.

"The voting began at the embassy since this morning," the ambassador said in press statements, adding that members of the Egyptian community began to flock to polling stations to cast their votes in the referendum.

"The embassy provided all the administrative facilitation for the voting process," he added, pointing out the low number of Egyptians residing in Algeria.

Mosharafa attributed the low turnout in the first day of the voting to Algeria's ongoing popular protest movement, expecting that the number of voters will increase in the coming two days.
