Egyptian, Canadian Muscian to Feature at Yahya Khalil's Concert in Opera

CAIRO, Jan. 16 (SEE)- Egyptian Legendary Jazz musician ”Yehya Khalil” will host Canadian singer Sherry Blauer, at the small theatre in Cairo Opera House. The concert will be held at 8 pm on Thursday and Friday, 17-18 January, with the participation of Canadian jazz and blues singer Sherry Blauer as well as a group of Egyptian musicians. The concert includes a dream in a strange world, the people of my country, the piano, Donia, Amal, Amira, non-title, foreign music selections and number of the most famous Arab music in Jazz.

Khalil, who lived in Chicago in the 1960s and 70s, after joining the American Music Conservatory for two years, played with a lot of know music legends, including Jimi Hendrix, Ginger Baker, Jeff Bush and Eric Clapton before returning to Egypt and transforming the music scene.

He pioneered the jazz movement in Egypt, and has been a game changer for music n the past four decades and continues to redefine ”jazz” blending world trends with local music.

The great musician performed with Gillespie in the opening of the Cairo Opera House in 1989, according to Khalil’s official page and cooperated with a number of Egyptian singers such as Mohamed Mounir.

He received the Opera House bestowed “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his outstanding contribution in enriching musical life in Egypt by Minister of Culture Enas Abd El-Dayem.
