Cuban ‘Ares’ to Visit Egypt Soon

CAIRO, Feb. 13 (SEE) - The Egyptian Caricature Association hosted the Cuban Ambassador Mrs. Tania Aguiar Fernández, in a special event to mark the 70th anniversary of the Egyptian-Cuban diplomatic relations. Both parties are organizing a joint caricature exhibition next  September for this occasion. The invitation came as well to honor the ambassador who assumed the position less than two months ago.

Discussions held at the event tackled the invitation of famous Cuban artist Ares, one of the most important cartoonists in Cuba, who received many international awards and held famous exhibitions, and had friendship relations with many Egyptian artists.

The association expressed readiness to coordinate with the cultural ministry at Cuba to invite the artist and cover the costs of his trip.

Fawzi Morsi, board member at the association said that the Cuban Ares wished to visit Egypt and the association promised to receive him. “We are willing to invite him on July 7, at the 6th International Cartoon Gathering.

On her part, the Cuban ambassador expressed her deep gratitude for the hospitality she received at the Association, where a group of its most distinguished artists were attending, including Artist ‘Juma’, Board chairman of the Association. In the event, she received two paintings, one was a special portrait and the other a caricature.

Ares was born in 1963 and studied pharmacy, but his passion led him to become one of the world's leading cartoonists and graphic artists. He won more than 120 local awards and 140 international awards. Local and global satirical journals are filled with his works. He has more than 24 books, and had participated in jury committees at major art competitions.
