Coronavirus: Saudi Arabia Reports 1,223 New Cases, As Total Hits 17,522

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia reported 1,223 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the total conformed cases to 17,522, according to the Kingdom's Health Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed three new deaths, one Saudi national and two non-Saudis, ages ranging between 39 and 72 years old. This upped the death toll inside the Kingdom to 139.

Earlier today, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has ordered the partial lifting of the curfew across Saudi Arabia, with the exception of the holy city of Makkah and other places previously isolated after Coronavirus outbreak.

According to the royal decree, the public movement will be allowed from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day until May 13; some economic and commercial activities will restart from April 29 until May 13.

Moreover, the wholesale and retail trade stores, as well as commercial centers and malls will be allowed to resume their activities during the two-week period from April 29 until May 13.

Contracting companies and factories are also allowed to resume their activities without restrictions on time, according to the nature of their business.

Several Arab countries have tightened restrictions on movement and travel, with the aim of curbing the spread of the Coronavirus, and some have pledged billions of dollars in economic stimulus programs to reduce the economic repercussions of the crisis.

More cases of the virus, which causes respiratory disease COVID-19, continue to emerge, with outbreaks in South Korea, Italy, and Iran.

People across the globe partake in self-isolation for 14 days as an effective precautionary measure to protect those around them and themselves from contracting COVID-19.

Transmission of the virus between humans happens when someone comes into contact with an infected person’s secretions, such as droplets in a cough.

It can also be transmitted by coming into contact with something an infected person has touched and then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes.
