Careem Bus to Launch in Egypt

CAIRO, Dec. 8 (SEE)- Transportation network company Careem will launch a new bus service in Cairo in the coming few weeks.

The Dubai based company operates in the Egyptian market according to the law of collective public transport and seeks to provide a distinctive service at a competitive price.

The new service will be launched in other governorates within the next six months," General Manager Hadeer Shalaby.

It is the first smart public transportation in Egypt, which offers the option of "On Demand" instant booking.

Shalaby expects the new service to reduce traffic congestion by 70 percent hence degrade carbon monoxide emissions.

She added that the company plans to invest another $ 100 million in the coming period. "We have acquired the Indian mass transit application "Commut" and redesigned it to suit Egyptian clients.

Shalabi stressed that Careem is keen to provide the best safety standards for the new service by providing regular training for the bus drivers and through providing full insurance on all trips with the possibility of communicating with the Care Center any time.

"The launch of the bus service will make mobility options better for millions of people, as well as reducing congestion and pollution in the city," CEO of Careem Mudassir Sheikha said.

Sheikha believes that the trend towards mass transport services is an important step that will have a significant and positive effect on the transportation system in the region.

Cairo is home to 22.9 million citizens and is expected to reach 40 million by 2050. The World Bank report estimates that the annual costs spent in Cairo's traffic amount to $ 8 billion. One person spends about 50 hours per month, and 60 percent Of the trips have only one passenger per vehicle.
