CAIRO, Nov.9(SEE)-Cairo University and its museum have a historical and geographical connection.

Although, the university embraces the museum geographically yet the latter holds its history. The founding date of the university is part of Egypt’s modern history.

Thus Cairo university’s museum tells tales of Egypt’s history. At the entrance of the museum hangs a sign which reads “ Dr. Mohamed Fawzi Al-Manawi , Professor of Obstetrics  and Gynecology, at Kasr Al Einy.”  He was the one who initiated the idea and funded the project financially and with his own collectibles.

Therefore, it was a grateful gesture to name the museum .

SEE's team made a tour around Cairo University's museum and inspected some its rare artifacts.

While artifacts are considered one of the finest in the world, Cairo University puts efforts to collect and document its treasures and most valuable possessions throughout 100 years.

The university's museum was established with the centennial celebration of Cairo University's inauguration, Jan 29, 2008.

The museum houses the foundation charters, the institution's official documents, artifacts and antiques from Ancient Egypt excavated by faculty of archaeology.

The objets d'art include ancient Greek - Roman coins, the French campaign documents with some official letters signed by Bonahart himself, King Fouad 's chair, some jewelries and golden pocket watches, medals and decorations belong to the last royal family, and some rare Ethiopian parchments.

Apart from the above work of arts, the university's art centre also retains an extensive collection of Arabic manuscripts of different subjects whose history goes back to 9th to 14th century AH.
