WASHINGTON, Aug 23 (SEE) - NASA warned on Thursday that an enormous asteroid estimated to be larger than the Great Pyramid of Giza will make a close approach to the Earth next week.

Asteroid NF23 is both larger than the 456ft tall (139m) Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt and the 364ft tall (110m) St Paul’s Cathedral in London, according to the Daily Express.

The massive space rock moves at a speed of more than 32,400 km per hour and is considered to be a ‘potentially hazardous’ due to its formidable size.

The potentially hazardous asteroids are all space rocks larger than 459 feet (140 meters) in size.

Dr Detlef Koschny, the head of the Near-Earth Objects team at the European Space Agency (ESA), said even smaller asteroids have a chance to cause great damage, adding “If a 100-meter asteroid hit Earth, it would cause significant damage in an area the size of Germany, and even affect the surrounding region."
