Archaeologists discover massive edifice near Giza

CAIRO – SEP 26 (SEE): Egyptian archaeological mission uncovered a huge edifice with several corridors and four entrances during excavation work carried out in Hod El-Demerdash, at Mit Rahina Museum in Giza.

 

The mission discovered another building attached to the southwestern side of the first structure which houses a large Roman bath and a room that may have been used for religious rituals. This highlights the idea of the existence shrines in houses.

 

Mostafa Waziri, the secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities said:"The building was a collection of purification basins and limestone holders for offering pots decorated with images depicting the head of the ancient Egyptian god Bes."

El- Waziri added, that the size of the building is 16x14.5 meters and probably part of the residential area of the site.

It is built of mud bricks supported with large blocks of limestone, and It's outer walls, inner staircases were built in red bricks.
