CAIRO, Mar. 11 (SEE)- The aerospace  students at the University of Science and Technology in Zewail are taking part in a heavyweight load-bearing aircraft that is running a remote control at SAE International.

A team of 13 students at the University of Science and Technology, the aerospace department of the third year of Zewail city for Science and Technology, will participate in the world’s largest international competition held in the United States from April 5 to 7 in California, to design a remote control airplane to carry heavy weights without a pilot with minimal energy consumption.

The students participation of space engineering in this competition in line with the strategy of Zewail city of science and technology, is based on supporting innovation. It also provides an environment for the students and encourage them to develop their skills and work to prepare a generation capable of innovation and its impact in the Egyptian society and even the world.

Dr. Mustafa Abdulla, head of  aerospace engineering at the University of Science and Technology in Zewail city, pointed out that the study within the city aims to make a major impact on the society by raising the level of education to a global level. Hence the support of engineering and space students to implement their project. .

Abdullah said that the team will compete with 75 teams around the world. The participation is the first of its kind for aerospace  students at the University of Science and Technology in Zewail city.

Gader Alam, who is a student at Zewail University,  said that the plane weighs about 8 kg, capable of carrying heavy weights. This aircraft is operated by remote control with a limited power source (1000 watts) at the lowest possible cost.

Hazem Al-Rifai is a student also, noted that the aim of this project is to raise awareness about the presence of an aviation and aerospace engineering department in Egypt and to focus on the engineering challenges inherent in unmanned and remotely controlled electric vehicles.

The Aero Design SAE is the largest international competition to be held annually in Los Angeles, California, USA. It is a real challenge for teams involved in facing real-life engineering applications. Different teams are taking part in the design and manufacture of a controlled aircraft. The remote control device can carry the maximum load taking into account the integrity of the structure and achieve the least possible weight of the empty structure.
