CAIRO, Nov. 28 (SEE) – ''Shadia'' was an Egyptian artist and one of the cinema icons in its golden era. She was born in1931, and died on November 28, 2017,after suffering brain stroke.

She was introduced to the world of cinema through an advertisement that her dad read about made by late director ''Ahmed Badrakhaan'' in 1947 looking for new stars and she entered that contest at the age of 16 and was adopted by ''Badrakhaan'' who changed her name to ''Shadia''.

Shadia acted in 150 films and recorded 500 songs during her long successful career in the film industry. She sang many patriotic songs and recorded hundreds of singles in a career that began in the late 1940s..

Her roles in two films based on novels by the Egyptian Nobel laureate ''Naguib Mahfouz'' won her lavish praise from Mr. Mahfouz himself.

Shadia got married three times; the first marriage was legendary actor ''Emad Hamdy'' who was almost 20 years her senior. Then she got married to Fathi Aziz, a radio engineer . Later,to actor ''Salah Thu El- Fakar'' for 7 years but they porced.

Her fan base reached across the Arab world. Her roles ranged from willful country girls and city career women to emotionally disturbed women and hopeless romantics.
