On Sunday, Zamalek were humiliated as they crashed out of the Egypt League Cup at the hands of NBE Club following a 3-0 defeat.

The Egyptian League Cup is currently taking place for the second year in a row in order to keep the clubs busy during the international break.

Having been knocked out of both the Egypt Cup and the CAF Champions League, lost the Super Cup to Al Ahly, as well as setting 11 points behind the Reds in the league, Zamalek knew that their only shot at a trophy this season would be in the League Cup.

They were drawn against Bank Al Ahly in the round of 16, with the winner facing Ceramica Cleopatra FC in the quarter-finals.

The game also marked Zamalek’s first after the sacking of Jesualdo Ferreira as both Ahmed Abdelmaksoud and Hussein Yasser took charge of the Whites in the game.

Zamalek dominated the ball in first-half, but created just a few chances, none of which ended in the back of Mohamed Abou-Gabal’s net.

Despite still having most of the ball after the break, it was Bank Al Ahly who managed to break the deadlock in the 83rd minute through ex-Zamalek player Karim Bambo following a howler from Mohamed Ashraf Rouka.

Four minutes later, Bank Al Ahly made it two, taking advantage of another amateur-like defending from the Zamalek players, which left Mahmoud Kaoud all by himself in the Whites’ half, before crossing the ball to Mohamed Helal, who easily tapped the ball into the back of the net.

In the 91st minute, Ahmed Yasser completed the rout and made it 3-0 after tapping in Karim Bambo’s low cross from close range.

Meanwhile, Pyramids FC lost to ENPPI on penalties after snatching a late 1-1 draw, setting up the quarter-finals as the following:
