2020 The Year of Pyjamas – 2021 Resolution, Op-ed

opinion .

Yes, 2020 was the year of The Pyjamas. We wore them most of the time, bought them for different seasons and not only that but we also had a variety of sizes as we have gained weight in the 2020 epic year.

So here we are welcoming the New Year with: A collection of summer and winter home wardrobe, a collection of Pyjamas in multiple sizes.

I must admit – 2020 was not like any previous year – and I hope it won’t be like any year to come.

It was more like a science fiction movie where the world under goes an un-known life threating virus , transmitted through breathing and the whole globe is running in a race to beat that wicked devil , then a heroic doctor comes out with this super genius treatment and voila!

The vaccine was invented or found from some tropical plant which grows only under the moon light on the top of the Himalayas, then the movie finishes with that doctor being the winner of the Nobel Science Prize for saving humanity …

At that moment ,I would be done with my popcorn and ready to leave the cinema ….this is how I see Covid-19 story , only difference is that it is not a science fiction movie and that we are still trying to save humanity.

2020 started rough, in January when Australia faced the worst bushfires killing millions of animals in the wildlife. Then China announced an outbreak of the new Corona virus.

In February, Corona started putting the whole world at a halt, with millions being home quarantined if not hospitalized.

In March, The Holy Mecca was closed, and Pope Francis performed prayers alone in the Cathedral in Rome.

April came in with mass graves in Brazil being made due to the huge numbers of deaths reported.

In May, the US led the world in terms of reported Corona cases.

In a nutshell, 2020 was all about Covid – 19. We had Covid in Ramadan, in the small feast after Ramadan, then the big one too, it was very active during summer, spring, autumn and now in winter.

Having said that , the elapsed year had other big events after Covid , like the UK exiting the European Union and lowering its flag, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit royal family, the death of George Floyd and “ Black Lives Matter “ protests which were hitting every news.

A quick reflection on 2020, two words sum it all: Everyone was trying to be “Staying Alive” like the Bee Gees famous song said.

Looking towards 2021, I must say I have one wish: that we are out of this pandemic safely with our loved ones.

The world has never been united on the same wish as this New Year's wish and resolution.

My list is usually long and challenging – however given the extreme measures we are going through, I lay all my bets on just this wish: A safer, healthier 2021 with no Covid nor death or illness news of our loved ones.

In the end, I wish everyone celebrating Christmas a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year – I think the best New Year gift would be a new Pyjamas with a festive touch.

Lets all give the boots to 2020 and cheers to 2021 and to another chance to make it right
