US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy said the House is on a clear path to pursuing the impeachment of President Joe Biden, citing corruption allegations linked to his son's foreign business dealings, Hunter Biden.

McCarthy added, in remarks reported by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ): "This rises to the level of an accountability investigation, and I think we will follow this to the end, and it will be raised to an investigation in the manner authorized by the Constitution."

In a comment to reporters Tuesday, McCarthy stressed the distinction between the start of the investigation and the actual vote for impeachment. He said: "The investigation of impeachment allows Congress to obtain information."

McCarthy's comments come in response to various developments in Republican investigations into the business dealings of Hunter Biden, the US president's son, in China, Ukraine, and other countries, which the Republican lawmakers allege also benefited from or were connected to President Biden, something the White House has repeatedly denied.
