The Washington Post (WP) said that the US Supreme Court’s decision that affirmative action programs for black and colored students at Harvard and North Carolina universities violate constitutional guarantees of equal protection is a landmark ruling that undoes decades of previous ones and will force a fundamental change in how public and private universities are chosen in the states.

The newspaper pointed out that the decision of the Supreme Court came with a division among its nine judges based on ideology, as the head of the court, Judge John Roberts, expressed the conservative members who represent the majority.

But the liberal judges came in opposition to their conservative colleagues.

The newspaper reported that while the ruling came concerning Harvard and North Carolina universities, its impact would expand to other universities across the country.
