Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued a Press release on the occasion of World Teachers' Day, which is celebrated annually on October 5.
Approved by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) since 1994, it commemorates the adoption of recommendations by (ILO) & (UNESCO) in recognition of the effective role of teachers in development.
This year's 2023 celebration theme is "Teachers at the heart of education recovery ".
Global estimates indicate the need for 69 million teachers to enable providing basic education for all by 2030, as the primary stage needs 24.4 million teachers, while the secondary level needs 44.4 million teachers worldwide.
The most important indicators:
• Pre-University education:
- 1.099 million Teacher in pre-university education, they teach 28million Pupilsin2022/2023,compared to1.143 Million in 2021/2022.
- 830.4 thousand teachers in general education teach 23.244 million students in 2022/2023, compared to 856.7 thousand teachers in general education who teach 22.872 million students in 2021/2022.
- 128.4 thousand teachers in technical education teach 2.250 million students in 2022/2023, compared to 135.3 thousand teachers in technical education who teach 2.191 million students in 2021/2022.
- 140 thousand teachers in Azhar Education in 2022/2023, they teach 2.5 million Pupils, compared to151thousand teachers in 2021/2022.
• Pre–primary Education:
- 63.2 thousand teachers in Pre-Primary education, (including 59.4 thousand teachers in public education,3.8 thousand teachers in Azhar Education), who teach 1.4 million Pupils, out of which 1.2 million Pupils in public education, 188.1 thousand pupils in AzharEducationin2022/2023.
- The average number of students per teacher is (21) Pupils, in public education at the governorates level, Port Said governorate achieved the largest number, reaching (38) Pupils per teacher, while El Wadi El Gidid governorate achieved the lowest number, (9) Pupils per teacher.
- The average number of students per teacher (50) Pupils in Al-Azhar education.
• Primary Education
- 485.5 thousand teachers in primary education, out of which(419.3 thousand in public education and 66.2 thousand in Azhar Education), they teach 15.1 Million Pupils, (13.7 Million students in public education, and 1.4 Million pupils in Azhar education) in 2022/2023.
- The average number of Pupils per teacher is (33) Pupils, at governorates level, Giza governorate achieved the largest number, as it reached (43) Pupils per teacher, while El Wadi El Gidid governorate achieved the lowest number reaching (9) Pupils per teacher, the average number of students per teacher (22) students in Al-Azhar education.
• Preparatory Education
- 275.2 thousand teachers in preparatory education, out of which238.4 thousand in public education, and 36.9 thousand teachers in Azhar education who teach 6.5 Million pupils, of which 6Million pupils in public education, 505.2 thousand pupils in Azhar education in 2022/2023.
- The average number of students per teacher is (25) pupils, at the governorates level, Giza governorate achieved the largest number, as it reached(34) pupils per teacher, while El Wadi ElGidid governorate achieved the lowest number reaching 7) pupils per teacher, the average number of students (14) students per teacher in Al-Azhar education.
• Secondary Education
- 128.9 thousand teachers in public secondary education, (Including 96.2 thousand teachers in public secondary education, 32.7 thousand teachers in Azhar education) who teach 2.5Million pupils (of which 2.1Million pupils in public secondary education,402.2 thousand pupils in Azhareducation) in 2022/2023.
- The average number of students per teacher (22) pupils, at governorates level, Giza governorate achieved the largest number, as it reached (31) pupils per teacher, while El Wadi El Gididgovernorate achieved the lowest number, reaching (6) pupils per teacher, the average number of Pupils per teacher (12)students in Al-Azhar education.
- 128.4 thousand teachers in technical secondary education are teaching 2.3 million pupils in 2022/2023.
- The average number of students per teacher is (18) pupils, at governorates level, the Giza governorate achieved the largest number, which reached (40) pupils per teacher, while the Port Said governorate achieved the lowest number that reached (7) pupils per teacher.
• Community education* and special education

- The average number of students per teacher (18) pupils, at governorates level, Matrouh governorate achieved the largest number, reaching (70) pupils per teacher, while South Sinai achieved the lowest number (3) pupils per teacher.

- The average number of students per teacher is (5) pupils, at governorates level, Giza governorate achieved the largest number, it reached (6) pupils per teacher, while El Wadi El Gidid governorate achieved the lowest number, and it reached (2) pupils per teacher.
* Community education or one-class school: It is a type of education that is provided to children (6-14) year, who have not enrolled in basic education, especially for girls in remote areas.
