The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the world may witness a new wave of the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19) every four months, according to a global expert on the disease.
In response to a question about the possibility of an increase in the Coronavirus two or three times a year, Dr. David Nabarro, WHO special envoy on the Coronavirus, said: “The way this virus activates, is it builds up and then ramps up exponentially, then decreases once in a while. Then it rises again every three or four months.”
It's hard to predict the future, Nabarro said, "but I agree that the pattern, I think, that's going to happen with this deadly virus is continuous mutations, and living with the virus means being able to prepare for these mutations and respond really quickly when they happen."
The Special Envoy of the organization continued to say that life can go on, and we can get the economy back to work again in many countries.
"But we just have to really respect the virus and that means having really good plans to deal with sudden surges," he said.
He noted that the virus will constitute a very difficult situation during the next three months at least, "but we can see the end on the horizon."
Nabarro indicated that there will be a lot of obstacles, “but it is really clear that there is no room for significant restrictions in any country, especially poor countries.”
He stressed that people have to continue to work, “and therefore there are some very difficult choices for politicians at the moment."
