The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stressed that ending the Coronavirus pandemic across the world requires vaccinating 70% of the planet's population, stressing the need to put an end to "vaccine nationalism."

In an article he wrote for the Russian newspaper "Izvestia" published hours ago, Ghebreyesus said: "We have to end the pandemic. This requires that all countries achieve, through joint action until mid-2022, the global goal of vaccinating 70% of the world’s population."

Ghebreyesus added, "It is important for governments to continue systematic adoption in the field of health and social care, including conducting examinations, follow-up and providing information on copies of the virus without fear of exposure to any accusations."

He pointed out that so far, "more than 8.5 billion doses of the anti-corona vaccine have been distributed, and thanks to this, millions of lives have been saved," adding that "new methods of treatment have also been developed, which allow for a significant reduction in death rates."

He indicated that “this does not remove at the same time the special nationalism, due to which excessive reserves of vaccines were formed in some countries, which undermined the principle of justice (represented by equal access to vaccines) and the emergence of ideal conditions for the emergence of the Omron strain.”

He affirmed that, therefore, the longer the principle of equitable access to vaccines continues to be violated, the higher the risk that the virus will continue to mutate, while we will not be able to predict or thwart these changes.

Since January 2020, the world has been facing a chronic health crisis caused by the outbreak of the new Coronavirus infection "Covid-19", which began its spread from the Chinese city of Wuhan and has led to huge losses in many sectors of the economy, especially transportation, tourism, the entertainment field, and the collapse of global stock exchanges and the acceleration of the decline in energy markets.
