United Nations (UN) humanitarian workers warned on Tuesday that aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip must double immediately to save the lives of the wounded and stop the risk of an outbreak of a deadly disease that has left doctors there “terrified.”
In an update from southern Gaza, UNICEF spokesman James Elder said, “A doctor from Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza told him that the threats to children used to come largely from the air and are now on the ground, in the form of diarrhea and respiratory infections,” according to a statement issued by the United Nations.
Reiterating deep concerns about the extent of the needs in Gaza, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) noted that an assessment conducted in northern Gaza, at the beginning of the cessation of fighting, on November 24, showed that “every person, everywhere has urgent health needs”.
