White House Press Secretary Karen Jean-Pierre said Monday that US President Joe Biden looks forward to speaking with new British Prime Minister (PM) Rishi Sunak in the coming days.
Jean-Pierre added - according to the White House website - that the protocol called on the US president to wait to offer his congratulations after the new British prime minister met with British King Charles III and formally invited him to form a new government.
"But President Biden looks forward to speaking with Rishi Sunak in the coming days," Jean-Pierre said, stressing Washington's commitment to continuing close cooperation with Britain.
