White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said that negotiations between the US administration and Republican leaders in Congress on raising the debt ceiling are proceeding fruitfully. "The talks were fruitful, and that's the main thing," she added.

Jean-Pierre also expressed the possibility of a "reasonable bipartisan agreement".

For his part, US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said earlier that US President Joe Biden's inaction could lead to the first default in the country's history.

McCarthy made it clear that the US authorities will be able to solve the problems that have arisen and there will be no default in that.

In turn, the White House confirmed, earlier, that it does not intend, at present, to resort to Article 14 of the US Constitution to raise the debt ceiling and prevent the United States from defaulting.
