A $2.2 billion military aid package to Ukraine was approved by the White House, and it includes money for the acquisition of Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) rockets, a cutting-edge new weapons with a roughly 100-mile range.

The new equipment would let the Ukrainian military to "perform operations in defence of their country, and to take back their sovereign land in Russian-occupied areas," according to Pentagon press secretary Brigadier General Patrick S. Ryder.

The new rockets might drastically alter the military power dynamics with Russia. The Ukrainian army has relied on HIMARS launchers built in America, which have about half the range, up to this point.

President Joe Biden is coming under more and more pressure to step up support for Ukraine and transfer more and more sophisticated weapons. Later in February, the "special military operation" in Russia will have been running for a full year.

Mike Rogers (R, Alabama), the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, observed recently that "GLSBD should have been adopted last autumn." Every day it takes to receive approval is a day it takes away from a Ukrainian who is prepared to kill a Russian.
