Publication of the website of the Gemological Institute of America, that popular diamond shapes include round, oval, pear, marquise, heart and more. A diamond’s cut style describes how its facets are arranged, which is typically either brilliant cut or step cut.
Most diamond shapes are usually brilliant cut. Although, square and rectangular diamonds can be either brilliant cut or step cut. Brilliant cut examples include princess and radiant cuts. Step cut examples include emerald and Asscher cuts.
Facets on brilliant cut diamonds tend to be triangular or kite-shaped, whereas, facets tend to be trapezoidal on step cut diamonds.
