About 6 million people have been caught up in the world's fastest-growing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and will need food and cash assistance, Jacob Kern, the emergency coordinator of the World Food Program (WFP) in Ukraine.

Kern added in a video conference for reporters in Geneva today, Tuesday, that the international organization has mobilized more than 60,000 metric tons of food for the response in Ukraine, enough for two million people for two months.

The WFP official pointed out that more than a third (38%) were purchased in Ukraine.

Kern noted that after seven weeks of conflict, the UN program has reached 1.7 million people in Ukraine through in-kind food assistance to families in besieged and conflict-affected areas and $3.6 million in cash-based transfers in areas where markets operate.

The UN program pointed out that half of the population in Ukraine is concerned about finding enough food for them.
