The Board of Directors of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) named, in a meeting held in Madrid, Walid El Batouty as an ambassador for the world tour guides.
The members of the federation include 94 countries and nearly 550,000 tour guides worldwide.
El Batouty is the only Egyptian who has been appointed to the position.
The appointment comes in recognition of his over 30 years of service, not only as Egyptian tour guides but also to guides all over the world.
El Batouty served as the deputy of the General Tourist Guides Syndicate and the head of the Admissions and Registration Committee from 2002 to 2012.
He has been also working as Vice-President of the Arab Tour Guides Federation since 2005 and as a representative of the Federation for the Middle East since 2003.
