Video Shows Hundreds of Dead Fish Floating in Romania's River

A video showed foul and worrisome sights along the Jiu River in the southern territory of Romania.

In the video, hundreds of dead fish were spotted floating by the banks of the river in several villages in southern Romania this week.

According to the authorities, the cause of death is under investigation, but it is likely that rising water temperatures deprived them of necessary oxygen.

"Fish that live in this hot water are particularly vulnerable to low dissolved oxygen content," the Romanian State Department of Environmental Conservation said.

Health officials say there is no cause for alarm, but the residents of the region feel there is cause for at least guarded pessimism.
