On Monday, veteran Egyptian journalist Ibrahim Hegazi died at the age of 67 after a battle with illness, his family announced.

Hegazi served as the editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Sports Magazine for 19 years after establishing it as the country’s first sports magazine in January 1990.

He won the prestigious Mustafa and Ali Amin for Writing Press Award in 1985.

An established figure in the Journalists’ Syndicate for over 20 years, Hegazi previously served as the syndicate’s undersecretary and the head of its registration committee.

Hegazi has also presented several talk shows, including the TV show ‘Daaret Al-Doo’a’, which was revived on State TV in 2017 after its success on the privately owned Al-Nahar TV channel. He also wrote a weekly column on Friday in Al-Ahram as one of its veteran writers.

Additionally, Hegazi was appointed as a member of the Senate by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in October 2020.
